Extracurriculars: Longevity vs. Position?

For college admissions, is longevity in extracurriculars more important than leadership positions?

For example: Would it look better if I was in a club for 4 years, but with no board/officer position? Or if I was in a club for 2 years, but with a board/officer position?

I’m a sophomore and I feel kind of late about extracurriculars. The only things I have so far with longevity would be 3 years of library volunteering on the Teen Advisory Board, and being on the school’s tennis team.

I’m involved right now in HOSA, NHS, American Cancer Society Club, and FBLA. I know I can get board/officer positions next year (junior year), but is 2 years enough?

Leadership is more important in anything…for example they will like it better if your the captain of the soccer team for a couple years as opposed to just playing soccer for x number of years. same goes with anything else that can take on a leadership role…but any extracurriculars look good on applications it just looks much better with a position. good luck! stay involved!

Higher positions usually look better to colleges, as they show leadership, which they love. Both look good, though.
