As we grow older, our bones start to corrode, which to some degree is standard and a natural result of aging. However, many of us lose so much bone that our skeletons become weakened and misshapen and in harsh cases we attract loss of bone density in multiple places. That’s osteoporosis, and it often causes breaks of the hip, backbone and forearm. At its worst, bones can become so fragile that they can crack and break under the body’s own weight! The meaning of the term osteoporosis originates from osteo, meaning bone, and porosis which implies thinning or getting more porous. Hence, osteoporosis means thinning of bone.

Medically talking, Osteoporosis is an illness of the bone in which the bone mineral density ( BMD ) is reduced that means one has a low bone mass and disintegrating bone tissue. In one-syllable words, the bones become thin, crisp and will be simply damaged. Bone mass ( bone density ) is the quantity of bone present in the skeletal structure. The bigger the density the stronger are the bones.
